Title Ideas

We then decided to look at the highlighted ideas and choose our favourite.

Codename - This name is good because it has connotations with coding and hacking which is the sort of style we are going for.

Case 101 - This name is catchy as it can relation to mystery or investigations which can related to an action film.

The Unknown - This name is interesting as it can add suspense to the film, however it does sound like the movie would be more of a horror than an action comedy.

Level Up - This name was very interesting as it has connotations with video games which "Level Up" and so could be quite effective for us to use.

Multiplayer - This name also has connotations with gaming and could be interesting to use as it is unique and could add suspense as the audience may want to know why the title is multiplayer and what the film is about.

Fast Lane - This name would be good however the connotations also relate to racing cars and the opening scene has none of  those connotations.

Game On - This name is good as it is related with gaming and allows the audience to question what the game might be leading to.

Game's End - This name has connotations with gaming which is good however the End might make the film seem to serious.

We decided that the best name to use is 'Game On' as it is the best suited to our opening scene and it incorporates both the action side and the reality side of the opening scene.

Location Recce- Inside the house

This is our first location to film the first part of our opening scene. We decided that this bedroom is best suited for our opening scene as we wanted a gender neutral bedroom so that audience won't be able to guess if Alex is a male or female.
We will create the mise-en-scene for the bedroom by adding props such as: cheese puffs, red bull cans, calculator, laptop, coding textbook etc. This will give the idea that the main character is a teenager (messy room) and that she is a computer genius/ hacker (coding text book, calculator, laptop etc).

Props, Makeup & Costume

Props:

Makeup:

We decided that the main character (Alex) will have a basic/natural makeup. This will include:

- Foundation
- Concealer
- Mascara (small amount)

It may not matter how much makeup we put on Alex as we are still deciding if we should reveal the character in the end. But just in case we will put a bit.

Costume:

Using the Bitmoji app we created an avatar on how our main character would look like and she would wear.

Risk Assessment

Risk
Impact
Reducing the risk
Back-Up
Slipping due to rain and/or getting wet from the rain
High Impact - Injuries could occur on the actors and they could also get cold which would not be good
Make sure footwear is appropriate with a suitable sole. Also, try to   film on a day when it is not predicted to rain.
Have warm clothing off set and try to change the date of filming if the weather conditions are not suitable.
Allergies to make-up and clothing
Low Impact - It is easy to avoid any serious risks
Before filming ask the actors whether they are allergic and do small tests on the actor’s arms.
Use different make-up and clothing. If there is a problem, then contact parents and if serious contact first aiders.
Camera and/or equipment breaks
High Impact - If broken, a new camera will need to be bought.
Low Impact - The camera battery may run out.
Handle all equipment with care and make sure batteries are fully charged.
Bring a spare camera with just in case and/or an extra battery.
Tripping

Shooting Schedule

This is our shooting schedule so on the day of filming we know exactly what we need to do where are when.

Shooting Script

This is our shooting script which will help us understand exactly what needs to happen in the opening scene.

Location Recce- Tunbridge Wells

Tunbridge Wells: Meadow Road Car Park

A second location we have decided to look at is a reasonably quiet car park in the centre of Tunbridge Wells. The reason we have decided to location scout this particular car park structure is that we know that it is not be very busy whilst also being in an urban looking location.

Outside

The outside of the parking complex is very busy as it is surrounded by roads and shops.

Side Ally

Right next to the car park is a quiet side ally. There is little to no pedestrian flow through and along the road is a collection of bins and a couple of cars.

Entrance/ Exit

Stairs

There are two sets of stairs, one at each end of the structure. One set is in the open air and comes out onto the street whereas the other one is more enclosed and comes out by the main pedestrian exist by the lift.

Top floor

The top floor of the car park is completely deserted.

Lift

There is a lift on the end with the pedestrian entrance, it is slightly off to the side away from the actual doors.

Storyboard Final

NEW VISION

Colour palette:

This is our new colour palette that we created as the tones would change. We are going to use darker tones so the opening seems to be a darker action film, however there are some light tones at the end because of the short piece of comedy in the scene.

Also there tones of blue as that is the sort of coloured room we are looking for as blue is a unisex colour.

9 Frames:

Sound Palette

We then recreated our sound palette to match the tone more of the current idea. However some of the sounds remained the same as they worked well with both ideas.

IDEA CHANGE

We have realised that our idea about two brothers is not possible anymore because of various reasons proving difficult to overcome. Such as the fact that we could not find a parkour actor who is available on our day of filming, and so if we use an athletic person who cannot actually do parkour it might look cheesy and not very professional.

Another problem is that the residential area we looked at previously does not suit the action-running theme we were looking for, because the area is surrounded by houses, grass, and trees which is not ideal. So we have found an empty car park area in Tunbridge Wells which has a more urban feel to it and industrial look. From this we have changed our idea slightly so that there is only 1 main character shown in their bedroom when suddenly a text message appears to which they rush out the door and into a fast paced running action sequence through streets and into a car park. Near the end they enter a lift and finally takes off their hood to show long hair fall down and then revealing their identity.

There is still an element of comedy integrated at the end in which an old lady interrupts the girls moment and asks loudly for Level 4 please, and ends with the lifts doors closing and the title appears.

Location Scouting- Dunton Green

Our group went to look at the residential area in Dunton Green to see how we can film our opening scene.

We plan on using the cafe to get interior shots. The owner of the cafe gave us permission to film in his cafe when we needed to.

The cafe has a large window which is exactly what we need
to shoot our scene. The atmosphere of the cafe is calm with music playing in the background which is the complete opposite to what's happening outside.

We also looked at the residential area where there a 'obstacles' that we could use such as bollards. There are also fences that we could use for the brothers to jump over.
The area is not as busy compared to other places which is an advantage as it would be easier for us to shoot without disturbing anyone.

There were some railings but it was not steep enough to be used for sliding down. Also, it is located near the bath store and wine shop which is not relevant to our scene.
Next time, we will look around Tonbridge to see if there are other possibilities. But it would be easier to stay in one location so that it won't get complicated.

Once deciding on using the location in Dunton Green we went again to understand how the location will work and where all the scenes would happen. I decided to take the photos of the location and put them in the best sort of working order for the opening scene to happen in.

Whilst going around the location I realised that it would be better to use the playground fence instead of the white fence for continuity purposes.

Also when walking around we made a couple of videos of ideas and below is a video idea of the trolley scene where the trolley would go where the space next to the house is.

Finally, an obstacle that we came across was the way in which we get the café scene into the rest of the opening scene in order for it to be continuous. One of the ways we thought we could come over this problem was by having the café scene closer to the end when they run to the main road in order for the opening scene to be continuous and the style of the buildings would then match well.
